FOX Bringing Back Touch, Ending Alcatraz And The Finder

Touch cast

FOX made some tough decisions, renewing one struggling series, and axing too others. First off, 24's Kiefer Sutherland recently made his return to series TV as the father of a boy with the uncanny ability to "see" past, present, and future events through numbers in a sci-fi drama called Touch. Ratings started hot, but have since cooled off considerably. Nevertheless, FOX has decided not to give up on Sutherland just yet, and have renewed it for a second season. Part of their reasoning may be that it's an in-house FOX studios production, and thus they don't have to deal with the cost of licensing the rights to air it from another production company.

Jorge Garcia on AlcatrazNext up, we have some not-so-good news for J.J. Abrams fans. Despite it's talented cast (including Lost's Jorge Garcia, and film veteran Sam Neill), viewers never seemed at all interested in just where those Alcatraz prisoners had disappeared too, and why they had now come back. The ratings numbers have been consistently awful since the premiere, and with the show's high budget, it's not hard to see why FOX dropped the death blow on the series. Especially since Terra Nova got much better ratings, and was similarly axed for budgetary reasons. Alcatraz, yet another sci-fi show that ends with no resolution. Sigh.

The FinderFinally, Bones spin-off The Finder seemingly couldn't find an audience as it's viewership has been far below it's father series, and regularly dropped below it's Monday lead-in, which lead them to give it the dreaded Friday Night Death Slot. True to the name, the death slot did nothing to help, and quickly sealed the show's fate.

Remember though, FOX isn't all bad. They recently renewed Fringe for a fifth season, despite it getting lower ratings than all three of the above series. Why? I'm not sure. Maybe there's a Fringe fan in the FOX programming department.

Are you happy to keep feeling Kiefer's Touch this fall? Are you angry that Alcatraz won't get a resolution? Will you miss The Finder? Discuss.

I am annoyed about Alcatraz = again - to just axe a show with no resolution shows just how much the networks care about their viewers. I enjoy Touch. Each episode is kind of wrapped up. At least there won't be any unresolved cliffhangers there.

Totally agree with everything my fellow countryman said. So frustrating to invest time in a series, only to have it ended without resolution. It's why I never buy DVD box sets straight off because I don't want to buy a box set for a series that is never going to have a conclusion (well that and the fact prices are always higher when they are first released). I suppose we should be grateful that Fringe will at least be given its fifth season and a conclusion. It's also not just about the time slots, one week a show is on air, the next it's not, then it airs for a couple of weeks, then it's off air again. Seriously, do the morons who schedule these shows watch TV themselves and have any understanding of how irritating that is.

Cancelling The Finder was a big mistake... i have nothing agaisnt the other series but i would have prefered to see a comedy than what ever you may call Touch... The time reserved for the Finder wasn~t the best slot but compared to other series it had more viewers than before...

I think networks should start looking outside the US for its ratings as well... I dont recall if it was Europe or South AMérica but alot of people were comiting about The Finder... and not so in favour of Alcatraz... in fact... Alcatraz got renegated to almost the dead zone time...

With this global market... there are more people watching than they know...

Don't understand the decision to cancel the Finder. It was a decent show and may well have grown an audience over time, And the way they ended it makes the decision even worse - absolutely no resolution. And the networks wonder why viewers don't commit to shows anymore - it's because we're all sitting back waiting to see what you cancel before we get involved.

Truly getting sick and tired of these idiots cancelling good shows. I'm seriously tempted to boycott purchasing from any company who had products represented during commercials on any Fox reality shows... and encouraging all other fans of REAL tv to do the same.

Damn the Americans. They make the greatest tv shows on earth then piss about with the time slots until they inevitably die. No tv show should ever get cancelled until an appropriate ending can be crafted for the fans who DID watch and support it. Why should I bother watching a new season of anything and get emotionally invested, with there being a very real chance that it will be cancelled before it gets any traction?? Fucking reality shows are killing tv and it makes me sad. And I agree, Fox are twats. Smelly, fishy twats.
