Two very impressive leading ladies are heading to the small screen to join in on what is shaping up to be a fascinating comedy project.
Actress Sally Hawkins, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in Woody Allen’s ‘Blue Jasmine,’ and Catherine Keener, who was also nominated for an Oscar for ‘Being John Malkovich’ and starred in last year’s ‘Enough Said,’ have enlisted in the FX comedy pilot ‘How and Why.’
From Oscar-winning screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, the talented and introspective mind who earned the award for penning ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ (he was also nominated for ‘Being John Malkovich’ and ‘Adaptation’), comes a story about the hapless and curiously-named Goodman Hesselman. Played by Oscar-nominated actor John Hawkes (‘Winter’s Bone’), Hesselmen knows little about life, save for how and why nuclear reactors work.
Upon the cancellation of his children’s science show, ‘How and Why,’ Hesselman is forced to start things anew, trying to find an outlet for his show and knowledge, but instead encountering something supernatural and unknown.
The pilot also stars ‘Arrested Development’s Michael Cera, and will be directed by Kaufman.
There is no information yet about either of the characters the actresses will portray, but should the pilot get picked up, Hawkins will become a regular while Keener will guest star.
