Emmy-winning actor Dan Bucatinsky is headed to one of NBC’s newest pilots, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Peacock’s comedy pilot ‘Marry Me,’ from ‘Happy Endings’ creator David Caspe, is welcoming Bucatinsky in a fatherly role. He is set to play Annie’s (‘Happy Endings’ Casey Wilson) father, Kevin 2 who is married to Annie’s other father, Kevin 1 (‘Saturday Night Live’s Tim Meadows).
The comedy follows Annie and her longtime relationship with Jake, Ken Marino (‘Children’s Hospital’). The duo quickly become engaged, but soon enough they realize it’s much harder than it looks.
If the single-camera comedy gets picked up, Bucatinsky is likely to recur.
Warning: major ‘Scandal’ spoilers are about to be discussed.
As us gladiators and ‘Scandal’ fans know, Bucatinsky won an Emmy for his role as journalist-turned-White House press secretary James Novak. Of course, he also played husband to Jeff Perry’s Cyrus Beene. In last night’s episode, James was devastatingly killed off the show.
"I've been a husband of [Scandal's] Jeff Perry for three seasons and now playing Tim Meadows' husband and the very well-preserved father of Casey Wilson," Bucatinsky exclusively told THR. "It's hilariously funny and I'm excited to be in a comedy, and hopefully if that gets picked up I'll have the opportunity to play with those guys. It's been a really fun distraction from the eulogizing I've been doing in my head of James Novak!"
In addition to ‘Scandal,’ Bucatinsky is also known for working with Lisa Kudrow as writer, director, exec-producer and co-star in ‘Web Therapy.’ He also executive produces, with Kudrow, ‘Who Do You Think You Are?” on TLC.
