‘The Good Wife’: Last Night’s Shocking Episode [SPOILERS]
Warning: as the headline reads, last night’s episode of ‘The Good Wife’ was shocking. So, if you’ve yet to watch the episode, and you don’t want to know what happened, back away -- now! Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
So, not only did Will Gardner (Josh Charles) get shot by his client, Jeffrey Grant (Hunter Parrish), but he also died. Yes, Will is dead. Jeffrey opened fire at the courthouse, leaving Will bleeding in the courtroom and later dying at the hospital.
In an exclusive interview with TVLine, Charles revealed it was entirely his decision to leave the hit CBS series where he played Will for almost five seasons.
So, why did Charles want to exit? As he told TVLine, “It wasn’t anything bad. Creatively, I was just ready to move on to the next chapter. After having a long conversation with Julianna [Margulies], and with [series co-creators] Robert and Michelle [King], I liked the idea of coming back and doing a finite amount of episodes [15, to be exact].”
Despite Will being gone for good, the character will be back for next week's episode, specifically in flashbacks revolving around Alicia (Margulies) and her grief. Also, Charles will direct a future episode, ‘The Good Wife’s co-creators, Michelle and Robert King, told TVLine.”
If you’re angry and saddened by Will’s death, the Kings penned a letter to fans explaining their decision on how they wrote Charles out of the legal series. And, if you’re looking to blame anyone, Charles asks you to blame him, “I know people will be shocked and some fans will be upset, and maybe even angry, and I can take the hit on that one. If they’re going to blame anybody, they can blame me.
But I think it’s going to send the show in a new direction and it’s going to just keep being fantastic. I’ve been really proud to be a part of it. It’s the longest job I’ve ever had. I leave with my head held high and feeling, hopefully, that I contributed in some small way to make it what it is.”
You can check out the two devastating moments below, where Will gets shot, and Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) and Diane (Christine Baranski) see Will’s dead body at the hospital.
One of the main reasons I was still watching this show this horrible season, previous seasons were all engaging and top notch, was the hope that Alicia would finally dum her asswhipe husband.
I'd have loved a reunion with Will, but I guess Peters behavior in the pre combined with the shock of Wills death might finally be enough of a push to get her to get a divorse.
