With canceled NBC sitcom 'The Michael J. Fox Show' now firmly in her rear view mirror, 'Breaking Bad' alum Betsy Brandt isn't wasting any time moving on with her career.
About a week ago, we passed along the news that Betsy had signed on to recur as Dr. Masters' new secretary on Season 2 of the hit Showtime drama 'Masters of Sex.' Just how sexy we'll get to see the former Marie Schrader get is still unknown, but tonight brings word that Brandt looks to maintain an existing three-way relationship ... with network and cable TV.
Brandt co-starred in both 'Breaking Bad' and 'The MJF Show' last year, and it now appears that she'll be fronting an upcoming network drama, while continuing her work on 'Masters.'
'The Club' is an upstairs/downstairs style nighttime sudser about the members and employees of a prominent country club. Brandt will play Leslie Holbrooke, former socialite, whose world came crashing down when her cheating husband ran off with her father's young trophy wife. Yep, her husband left her for her stepmother. Somehow a "Jerry, Jerry" chant seems appropriate, but since this isn't 1998, I'll politely refrain.
Anyway, hubby wrecked the club's finances before exiting stage left, leading to Leslie being largely ostracized by her family. She's now a single mother working as a legal consultant, and tries her best to keep a sense of humor about her situation.
'The Club' was given a 13-episode straight-to-series order by ABC. It is expected to debut sometime during the 2014-2015 TV season. Susannah Grant ('A Gifted Man') created and will executive produce the project.
