The cast of CBS' 'How I Met Your Mother' spin-off 'How I Met Your Dad' is now one (wo)man-short. Actress-singer Krysta Rodriguez ('Smash') has exited the pilot.
Rodriguez was originally cast as Juliet, a fashion blogger and the fun and flamboyant "party girl" of the group. She's also secretly happy when her best friend Sally (Gerta Gerwig) leaves her husband. Sounds like shades of Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), no? Which may have been the problem. Rumors abound that perhaps the spin-off is too much like its original counterpart. The character is now undergoing changes after a table-read.
The show, which is in the vein of 'HIMYM' but with a female perspective, follows Gerwig's Sally, who lacks direction and isn't really suited for her marriage of only one year. She battles and commiserates with her friends in New York City as she decides on the best path for her career and love life. The pilot, from 20th TV, was written by Emily Spivey ('Up All Night') and 'HIMYM' creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. Rob Greenberg, also from 'HIMYM,' is directing.
The three male leads, Drew Tarver ('May the Best Man Win'), Nick D’Agosto ('Masters of Sex') and Andrew Santino ('Mixology'), remain in tact.
A veteran of Broadway, Rodriguez appeared in 'The Addams Family,' 'Spring Awakening,' and 'First Date.' She showed off her musical prowess on NBC's musical 'Smash' and also appeared on 'Gossip Girl.'
