Apparently, today is all about ‘Scandal’ welcoming new talent and a current series regular of the hit ABC drama joining a new CBS project.
E! News exclusively reports that Joshua Malina will star opposite Halle Berry in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming new summer series, ‘Extant.’ As a guest star, Malina will portray Dr. Scott Beck, “the lead doctor in an emergency room of the near-future.”
However, Dr. Beck isn’t one to sugarcoat matters, as he is known for his “blunt bedside manner.” With that bluntness, he will reveal “some chilling news” to Berry’s Molly Woods. This news must be that Molly is pregnant with an alien baby (no, I'm not joking), right?
The sci-fi thriller, which Spielberg has dabbled in quite a bit, will revolve around astronaut Molly who returns home after a year-long mission in outer space. Not only is she struggling to reconnect with her family, but Molly’s life becomes even more difficult once she discovers she’s pregnant aka carrying an extraterrestrial fetus. If that isn’t complicated enough, her husband, John, (‘ER’s Goran Visnjic) has created a robot prototype son (‘Looper’s Pierce Gagnon).
The series also features Camryn Manheim as Molly’s best friend, Grace Gummer as Julie aka John’s scientific partner and Annie Wersching as John’s adversary.
For those unfamiliar with Malina, he currently stars as U.S. Attorney David Rosen and boyfriend to Darby Stanchfield’s Abby on 'Scandal.' He’s also starred in ‘Big Shots,’ ‘The West Wing’ and ‘Sports Night.’
‘Extant’ is set to premiere Wednesday, July 9 on CBS.
