Good news is coming...
Up until now, you probably thought today was just going to be your basic, typical Tuesday. But thanks to some very exciting news courtesy of HBO, it's now transformed into a day of immense celebration. Why? Because 'Game of Thrones' has just been picked up for two more seasons!
That's right, folks — the network has now officially renewed the popular fantasy series for a fifth and sixth season, which means there's still plenty of drama and suspense for fans to look forward to and obsess over for years to come.
Of course, the news itself shouldn't be the least bit surprising given the show's massive band of loyal and dedicated followers. In fact, its Season 4 premiere, which just aired this week, garnered such high ratings (6.6 million viewers) that it became HBO's most-watched program since 'The Sopranos' finale in 2007 (11.9 million viewers).
Basically, this show is awesome and everyone knows it. So while this may just be no more than a mere formality we all knew was coming, it's still going to be the best bit of news you'll hear all day, guaranteed! (That is, unless 'Breaking Bad' suddenly announces it's coming back for another season.)
“'Game of Thrones' is a phenomenon like no other,” the president of HBO programming, Michael Lombardo, said in a statement. “David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling.”
So prepare yourself, Westeros, because the battle for the Iron Throne is far from over.
'Game of Thrones' airs Sundays at 9/8c on HBO.
