It's a great day to be a TV fan. Earlier today, it was announced that 'Game of Thrones' had been crowned with two more seasons, leaving many fans in an on-going state of high euphoria. And now it seems FOX has some pretty happy news of its own to share...or should we say glee-ful news?
TVLine exclusively reports that 'Glee' has managed to lure an Oscar-winning actress into its casting net. The one and only Shirley MacLaine has signed on to appear in a multi-episode arc of the popular musical series. And apparently, her character will take a particular interest in Blaine (Darren Criss).
MacLaine is set to portray a powerful New York socialite intent on turning recent Big Apple newcomer Blaine into a full-fledged superstar. (Further proof that New York is, in fact, a concrete jungle where dreams are made.) Her first episode is slated to air later this month.
But this won't be the first time MacLaine's found herself on the small screen. The Hollywood vet has made a memorable splash on the widely watched British series 'Downton Abbey' in the recurring role of Lady Grantham’s American mother, Martha.
However, what MacLaine is best known for is her long-standing career in film. Her movie credits include 'Terms of Endearment' (for which she won an Academy Award), 'Steel Magnolias,' 'The Apartment,' and 'Rumor Has It,' to name a few.
'Glee' airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on FOX.
