TVRage Bulletin: ‘Defiance’ Adds Linda Hamilton, ‘Marco Polo’ Rounds Out Cast & More!

-Syfy’s ‘Defiance’ is welcoming ‘Terminator’ star Linda Hamilton, Entertainment Weekly reports. She’ll play Rafe’s estranged wife, Pilar McCawley. According to executive producer Kevin Murphy, “Her character will simultaneously make you cry and scare the crap out of you.” Co-star Julie Benz was thrilled to learn of the news and said, “I think my response was … ‘Holy s–t. -The cast for Netflix’s original series ‘Marco Polo’ is set. Lorenzo Richelmy will play the lead aka Marco Polo in the 10-episode drama focusing on Polo’s famed journey. Benedict Wong (‘Prometheus’), Zhu Zhu (‘Cloud Atlas’), Tom Wu (‘Skyfall’), Remy Hii (‘Treading Water’) and Rick Yune (‘Olympus Has Fallen’) will also star. The series is slated for a late 2014 release.
-This summer, The CW will broadcast 10 episodes of the half-hour digital series ‘Backpackers,’ previously part of CW Seed. The show tells the story of Ryan (Noah Reid) and Brandon (Dillon Casey) and their journey across Europe to search for Ryan’s missing bride-to-be, the meaning of life and Ryan’s dream of becoming an author. Giacomo Gianniotti also stars as Brandon’s brother, Andrew.
-According to TVLine, Samantha Mathis (‘Under the Dome’) will guest on an upcoming ‘Law & Order: SVU’ episode, where she’ll play the ex-wife of a producer. Not only is she in a custody battle over their 8-year-old daughter, but her character is also accusing her ex of molesting their child.
-Variety reports that Universal is developing a ‘Battlestar Galactica’ film, which is said to be “a complete reimagining of the story.” Jack Paglen (‘Transcendence’) is set to write the screenplay, while original series creator Glen Larson will produce.
-Lastly, and in case you missed it, here is a first look at Damon Lindelof’s ‘The Leftovers,’ which will debut on June 15 at 10/9c on HBO.
