'Grey's Anatomy's Tessa Ferrer Joins 'Extant' in Recurring Role

Paging Dr. Leah Murphy. Dr. Leah Murphy, please report to outer space!

It looks like Tessa Ferrer will be turning in her medical scrubs for an impressive astronaut suit. The 'Grey's Anatomy' star — who we recently learned is gearing up to exit the popular ABC drama by season’s end — has already landed another TV gig: a recurring role in the highly anticipated CBS summer series 'Extant.'

For those unfamiliar with the show's storyline, the thriller will star Halle Berry's character Molly, an astronaut who is trying to reconnect with her family when she returns home after spending a year away in outer space. However, her experiences quickly lead to events that will ultimately change the course of human history. Uhh...welcome back to Earth!

Meanwhile, Ferrer will take up the role of Katie Sparks — an athletic, intelligent astronaut who is forced to make a terrifying decision when faced with unimaginable horror. Luckily, the actress already has a ton of experience dealing with a stressful work environment. (Let's face it, Grey Sloan Memorial wasn't exactly a place you'd go to relax. Like ever.)

So whatever this big, scary decision may be, it can't be any worse than the pressure of performing potentially life-threatening procedures on patients, right? Right...???

'Extant' is slated to make its series debut Wednesday, July 9 at 9/8c on CBS. It's sure to be out of this world.
