We have lift off -- two more actors are blasting off into the 1960s space race. Bret Harrison and Aaron McCusker are taking on the roles of two Mercury Seven men in 'The Astronaut Wives Club.'
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harrison will play Gordon “Gordo” Cooper, a “hotshot, young gun with an all-American swagger.” Married to Trudy (played by Harrison’s former ‘Breaking In’ co-star Odette Annable), they’ve encountered trouble due to his wandering ways and almost divorce, but Gordo’s “convinced her to come back so he can have his shot at space.”
As for McCusker (‘Shameless’), he’s set for the role of Wally Schirra, an astronaut and a prankster. He’s also married to Jo, played by Zoe Boyle (‘Downton Abbey’).
Earlier this week, it was also announced that ‘Hell on Wheels’ actress Dominique McElligott joined the cats as Louise Shepard, wife to Alan aka the first American in space. She is said to be a real-life “Sabrina” coming from a father who was the head of maintenance at the Duponts’ Longwood Gardens estate. Her “perfect” image and intensely private life become a struggle once Alan enters the space race spotlight.
The 10-episode series comes from ‘Gossip Girl’s Stephanie Savage, focusing on the women married to American heroes and astronauts during the height of the space race.
The series also stars JoAnna Garcia Swisher (Betty Grissom), Erin Cummings (Marge Slayton) and Azure Parsons (Annie Glenn).
