It’s been a week of ‘Salem’ news, and now there’s even more! WGN America’s first original scripted series is welcoming another familiar face to its historical and bewitching tale.
Stephen Lang, known for his work on ‘Terra Nova’ and ‘Avatar,’ is joining the dark and twisted drama as Increase Mather, father to Seth Gabel’s Cotton Mather. In this recurring role, Lang’s character is described as an old-line, hardcore Puritan who led the way across the ocean to the Promise Land in the late 1600s. Just like his son, he’s also intellectual, spiritual and political, and one of the most influential men in the country. Oh, and he’s also the most feared.
At the end of March, Gabel tweeted that Lang joined the dark series, “The fierce and resplendent @IAmStephenLang has joined us in Salem town. We are grateful to have him :).” And, now we have a name and a description to put with the face. Anyone else looking forward to scenes between these two?
In addition to Lang, Sammi Hanratty (‘Chosen,’ ‘The Unit’) is also coming to 17th century Massachusetts in the recurring role of Dottie. A confident young girl and a leader among her peers, Dottie will bring her classmates to talk with Mercy (Elise Eberle). She finds awe in mercy’s power and wants the troubled girl to put it to use.
‘Salem’ debuts this Sunday on WGN America at 10/9c.
