WATCH: First Trailer for NBC Pirate Drama 'Crossbones'
Are you ready to set sail, and embark on an adventure with a pillaging pirate crew? NBC sure hopes you are, as their new swashbuckling summer drama 'Crossbones' is set to premiere in just over a month. To give audiences a taste of what they're in for, the Peacock has released the first full-length trailer for the John Malkovich fronted series. Check it out below.
Wow. That was impressively cinematic, I have to say. Multi-time Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe nominee Malkovich looks to be in absolute top form as legendary pirate captain Edward "Blackbeard" Teach as well. The other featured player in the trailer is Richard Coyle's ('Covert Affairs') Tom Lowe, a physician whose ship is captured by the notorious outlaw. If the good doctor wishes to remain alive, he must agree to help Blackbeard decipher the clues leading to a sizable amount of buried treasure.
While set in and around the Bahamaian island of New Providence that Blackbeard once called home, 'Crossbones' was actually filmed in and off the coast of Puerto Rico. The series is the brainchild of Neil Cross, creator of the acclaimed BBC series 'Luther,' starring Idris Elba. It is based on the 2008 Colin Woodard historical non-fiction book 'The Republic of Pirates.' David Slade (director of multiple episodes of fellow NBC drama 'Hannibal') helmed the pilot.
