Born on April 24, 1982, it was Kelly Clarkson's choir teacher in Pauline Hughes Middle School who discovered her talented voice and urged her to join the school's choir. Kelly then went from a small town in Burleson, Texas to national fame when she caught the heart of million of voters who chose her as the first American Idol in the summer of 2002. Shortly after, she released her first single, "A Moment Like This", a song based upon her winning American Idol. The song rise to #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The single would eventually be part of her first album, Thankful. Her second album, Breakaway, debut within the top five in the U.S. and the top ten within Canada. The 2004 album went on to sell five million copies. Notable singles from the album are "Because of You", "Behind These Hazel Eyes" and "Since U Been Gone". Kelly received her first Grammy Awards in early 2006 for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album.
