Michael Easton is the first actor to play the role of John McBain, beginning in October of 2003, having relocated to New York to star on
One Life to Live. He was previously starring on the cancelled ABC soap,
Port Charles, as fan-favorite vampire Caleb Morley.
Michael was born in Long Beach, California, and throughout his life was raised in both the United States and Ireland, his parents' native homeland. He began writing poetry in high school, inspired by the works of Charles Bukowsi and Raymond Carver. In college, he had majors in both English and History, with an emphasis on Greek history. However, instead of finishing school, Michael decided to travel Europe, and his writing that he worked on during the trip was compiled into a book called
Drift.
Michael, after returning from Europe, decided to continue his education at Los Angeles' Universty of California, where he studied writing, directing, and last but not least, acting. He began writing plays while still in school, and performed them at various theatres throughout Los Angeles. Then, he was cast in the film
Coldfire in 1990. A year later, he acted in the films
The Killing Zone and
The Art of Dying.
Michael, also in 1991, was cast in his first daytime role, Tanner Scofield on
Days of Our Lives until 1992, which is also the year that he was named one of
People's "50 Most Beautiful People". He also acted in the television movie
Shadow of a Stranger in 1992. After that, he took a break from acting and relocated to New York for two years.
In 1994, Michael returned to acting, scoring television roles on
Dazzle and
VR5, and earned a guest appearance on
Diagnosis Murder. In 1995, Michael starred in
The Door in the Tamarind Theater in Los Angeles, and a year later, wrote, directed, edited, and produced the short film
Daedalus is Dead. When the film premiered at the British Film Festival, it was later honored the award of "Best Dramatic Short" at the Sea and Sky Festival in Canada. In that same year, Michael was also cast as identical twin brothers in the miniseries
TWO.
In 1997, Michael became a published poet with his book
Eighteen Straight Whiskeys. He also made appearances on
413 Hope Street,
Ally McBeal, and
The Practice, and earned a role in the television movie
Murder at Devil's Creek, and sold his screenplay that was based on the life of actor Montgomery Clift. In 1998, Michael acted in the television series
Total Recall 2070, (which also featured fellow
One Life to Live actor
Kamar de los Reyes) and won a Gemini Award for "Best Actor in a Continuing Dramatic Role". In 2000, Michael acted in the minsieries
The '70s. His screenplay
Hunting Icarus was sold to Neverland Films in 2001.
Also in that year, Michael returned to daytime television in
Port Charles. In 2002, he made a guest appearance on
Mutant X, and then went back to
Port Charles until its cancellation in 2003. Michael then relocated to New York for his role on
