Daniel Dae Kim was born on August 4, 1968 in Pusan, South Korea. His family immigrated to the United States when he was just two years old. He was raised in Easton, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he was an editor for the school newspaper and was student government president. He attended Haverford College in Haverford Township, Pennsylvania, and Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Kim graduated with a double major in both political science and theater. He started an MFA acting program at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in 1993, and graduated with his Masters degree in acting in 1996.

Kim has had recurring roles on the shows 24, ER, and Angel. He also did small spots on Seinfeld, and NYPD Blue. Kim was also in several films, including Spider-Man 2, The Hulk and Crash. His role as Jin-Soo Kwon on ABC’s hit drama, LOST, has earned him fame and led to his being named one of People Magazine's "Sexiest Men Alive" in 2005.

Kim currently lives in Hawaii where LOST is filmed. He is married to Mia Kim, and they have two sons, named Jackson and Zander.
