Matthew Perry was born in Williamstown, Massachusetts on August 19, 1969. He grew up in Ottawa, Ontario. His parents are Suzanne and John Perry, who divorced when Matthew was just a baby. Matthew's father was an actor as well, and his mother was a TV anchor and press secretary for the Canadian Prime Minister. His mom remarried when he was 10, and she had 4 girls - so Matthew knows a lot about being a big brother.
Matthew loves tennis, and still plays to this day. Perry caught the acting bug in 7th grade.
At 15, Matthew moved in with his father in L.A. to pursue his tennis and acting abilities. Tennis didn't work out, but Matthew's acting career began.
Matthew's first role was in the 1988 film A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon.
In 1993, Matthew and a friend wrote a sitcom called Maxwell's House, which was about the lives of young adult friends. Unfortunately, NBC already had a similar sitcom they were developing, which later became known as Friends. Matthew auditioned for the show and was cast as funnyman Chandler Bing.
