Dorothy Zbornak is your average lovable, sassy Italian senior citizen, living in Miami, Florida with her best friends and roommates (and mother), Rose, Blanche and Sophia. Dorothy is a substitute teacher, and is very intelligent, often imposing her overbearing intelligence onto others.
