Kathleen "Kathy" Griffin is an American actress and comedian. She was born in Oak Park, Illinois, later she moved to Los Angeles, where she studied drama at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and became a member of improvisational comedy troupe The Groundlings.
In the 1990s, Griffin began performing as a stand-up and also appeared as a guest star on several television shows, including a supporting role on the NBC sitcom Suddenly Susan (1996–2000). But Her breakthrough did not come until she was given her own reality show Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List. It aired on the Bravo network from 2005–2010.The show became a ratings hit for the network thanks to her always entertaining mother and countless catch phrases. "Tip it Kathleen!" The show earned her two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Reality Program. In addition to Emmy Awards, Griffin has earned five Grammy Award nominations for her five comedy albums. With her first release Kathy became the first female comedian to debut at the top of the Billboard Top Comedy Albums chart. In 2009, she decided to released her autobiography. In 2009 Kathy became the first comedian to release 4 television specials in one year. She has also hosted the new years eve show with Anderson Cooper in 2009 then again in 2011 and 2012.
Griffin is a huge LGBT rights activist. She is involved with causes such as same-sex marriage and the repeal of "Don't ask, don't tell", and she has participated in two USO tours.
Griffin is best known for her shameless recounts of celebrity encounters and controversial statements on current events and pop culture. Her unfiltered opinions on events lead to her own live late night talk-show. Her talk-show aired on Bravo, there was still a delay in the feed of coarse... (haha they are not crazy) And with that show she broke more ground for women by becoming the first female host of a live late night talk show. Her talk show was canceled in April of 2013, and rumors are swirling about her and Anderson Cooper co-hosting a new show for CNN.
