Meredith Vieira is an American television personality, game show hostess and journalist. She graduated with a degree in English from Tufts University. And entered the broadcasting industry in 1975 as a radio news announcer for WORC in Worcester, Massachusetts. She eventually moved on to television as a local reporter/anchor at at WJAR-TV a Providence TV station. Her career really began to take off when she, from 1985-1989, became a correspondent for nationwide news-magazine shows including
West 57th and
60 Minutes. After that she briefly hosted
CBS Morning News. In 1997 she started as a co-host and moderator of The View, one of her most noted roles. Before leaving
The View in 2006, in 2002, She began hosting
Who Wants to Be A Millionaire one of the roles Regis Philbin was best known for. While co-hosting
The View she began each live episode saying "Hello! And welcome to The View!". Which she has more or less carried over to
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, frequently beginning each episode of the show with "Hello! And welcome to Millionaire!". In 2006 she decided to leave
The View and take Katie Couric's place as co-anchor of
Today, an NBC news/talk show. She currently balances hosting
