Seth MacFarlane

General Information (Seth MacFarlane)

Mostly Credited As: Seth MacFarlane
Sometimes Credited As: Seth McFarlane
Birth Name: Seth Woodbury MacFarlane
Date Of Birth: October 26, 1973
Country Of Birth: USA
Birth Place: Kent, Connecticut

Seth MacFarlane was born and raised in New England, a small town located in Kent, Connecticut. He grew up in a family of four, consisting of himself, his father (Ron MacFarlane), his mother (Perry MacFarlane), and his younger sister (Rachael MacFarlane). According to his sister, Seth grew up on comedy (such as telling jokes and trying out different voices) and the arts (such as drawing and animation). When it came time for college, Seth decided to put these talents into gear.

He attended the Rhode Island School of Design, where he studied animation. Soon after graduating Seth was hired by Hanna-Barbera Productions (now known as Cartoon Network Studios), where he worked as an animator and writer for Johnny Bravo and Cow and Chicken (two popular TV series at the time). Seth also got a job at Walt Disney Animation Studios as a writer for the TV series Jungle Clubs.

In the mean time, Seth worked on and created The Life of Larry (1995) which was picked up to be used as an in-between on the popular skit show Mad-TV. Unfortunately the deal fell through, and The Life of Larry was never used on Mad-TV.

Fortunately, months after losing The Life of Larry deal Seth was approached by executives at FOX network who gave him $50,000 to create a pilot for a show which would eventually become the hit show Family Guy (1999). Family Guy aired on FOX for three (3) years until being canceled in 2002, only to be brought back on the air in 2005 due to strong DVD sales and syndication ratings. During the time Family Guy was canceled, Seth worked on what is now the hit show American Dad!, which also airs on FOX. Seth is now supposedly working on another show, The Winner, which is scheduled to air on FOX sometime in 2006.

Seth is the brother of Rachael MacFarlane, who often voices characters (such as Hayley from American Dad!) on Seth's show's.

Seth often incorporates music into his shows. This is most likely because he has a great singing voice. He was given voice training by a 90 year old couple who also trained Frank Sinatra.

The reason Seth's production company is called "Fuzzy Door" is because the door to the apartment he had while attending the Rhode Island School of Design was covered in fur.

Seth based the voice of Peter Griffin (from Family Guy) off a loud mouthed security guard that worked on his college campus, and Stewie Griffin (from Family Guy) off of Rex Harrison's perfomance as Henry Higgans in 'My Fair Lady'.

Seth is a very talented pianist.

Seth is a very big fan of Rex Harrison.

Seth has a Scottish ancestry.

Rachael isn't Seth's only famous sibling. His cousin, Tim Mercer, has a punk-pop band in Brooklyn, New York.
