Dante Basco probably looks familiar to “Hook” fans, since he played the beloved RUFIO! Yes, he played everybody’s favorite Lost Boy in the 1991 Steven Spielberg production, alongside Robin Williams, Julia Roberts and Dustin Hoffman. He’s definitely grown up since playing the iconic Lost Boy, and has transformed into a talented actor. Before getting into show business, he studied at Southern California’s Orange County High School of the Arts. Basco made his TV debut as Amado on the soap opera “Santa Barbara,” and ever since then his career has taken off. In addition to “Hook,” he’s appeared in MTV’s “Undressed,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper” and recurred on “Moesha.” Recently, he appeared in an episode of “Hawaii Five-0.” He’s also done quite well in the animated world by voicing the title role in Disney’s “American Dragon: Jake Long” and the voice of Prince Zuko in Nickelodeon’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” When he isn’t acting, Basco embraces his other talents, like poetry and designing T-shirts. He has his own T-shirt company, Rufio Inc., which is a charitable organization raising funds for at risk youth aka the “Lost Boys.” His first love is dancing, which he proved to be true in the movie “Take the Lead” with Antonio Banderas. Dancing and recording rap is something he also likes to do with his three brothers, one of which is Dion Basco, who is popular for his role as Alberto ‘Al in “City Guys.” Basco is always working on new projects, and for him, “Hook” was his big break, “It was the biggest film in town at the time, an epic actor playing the lead of this multicultural crew. It definitely put me on the map and started my career in a really great direction.” Basco is based in Los Angeles.
