Kelly Rowland

Kelly Rowland was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Doris Rowland Garrison and Christopher Lovett. At the age of seven, her mother and her left her abusive alcoholic father and moved to Texas, where at the age of 8, Kelly began to pursue her music career.

Shortly after moving to Houston, she formed a rapping and dancing group with friends Beyonce Knowles and LaTavia Roberson called Girl's Tyme and they were managed by Beyonce's father Matthew. Kelly later moved in with the Knowles family, and the group was finalized, with the three of them and LeToya Luckett. The girls worked hard, praticing in the Knowles backyard, until one day they got a record deal with Elektra Records, but were dropped after a year.

In 1993, they changed the group's name to Destiny's Child and toured for four years, when they got their big break, signed with Columbia Records, and rose to stardom.

Although the members of the group changed over the years, Rowland remained, until the group officially disbanded in 2005. Ever since, Rowland has ventured off and pursued a successful solo music career and became an actress, appearing in both film and television. Rowland also is a philanthropist, donating to charities and raising money for the Survivor Foundation, a charity she founded with the Knowles family. Rowland is an award winning artist, with a career spanning over a decade, and continues to set the charts on fire.
