If you saw any episodes of Pop Idol, American Idol, The X-Factor, Britan’s Got Talent, you have to remember this British guy named Simon Cowell. They say he knows no pity and shows no mercy on his shows, and that is very clear in the way he runs the shows. Speaking of his style, it is uncompromising and at times even cruel, for which he was repeatedly criticized by the general public. However, it’s his style that found the perfect niche for him, and now he is one of the most popular TV hosts not only in Britain, but in the whole world.
Simon was born in England in the fall of 1959. His career started in the correspondence department on EMI; in time he was promoted to the role of the producer. In 1980s he left the company and founded his own label Fanfare Records. At first his idea saw some inflow of cash, but soon enough it went bankrupt, and Simon had to start it all over again. In 1989 he becomes an A&R consultant for BMG. Within a short time he signs a number of contracts that literally changed the showbiz, among which were Curiosity Killed the Cat, Sonia, 5ive. Simon can’t forget his fiasco with his own business, and so he founds S Records.
Along comes Pop Idol, where Cowell becomes the judge for the first season. The success of the “bad guy” that he was, provided him with a great career from then on. The phrase “I don’t mean to be rude, but…” became his trademark (in 2004 he actually published a book with the same title). Meanwhile his business flourishes and he sold a part of his company for 42 million dollars.
His nieces, Tanyette Chantel and Melissa Lee Williams, and nephew, their brother, Joshua Aaron Williams, all appeared in Season 1 of Pop Idol as audience members. Is currently worth, £6,000,000. Has hosted both X Factors and all five American Idols. Recieved the highest wage for the X Factor. Turned up late once for an X Factor show because of a late night before at Elton Johns. Said he was 25 percent Scottish, but then a week later changed it to be 50 percent Scottish on his mother's side. In 2006, Simon was ranked #29 on Forbes Top 100 Celebrities.
