Stephen Lynch is not a singer; Stephen Lynch is not a songwriter; Stephen Lynch is not a comedian. Stephen Lynch just happens to be all three things in one convenient package of a man.
Stephen grew up in Michigan, presumably in close proximity to the Whittling Man. In 1993, he graduated from Western Michigan University with a BA in drama. Although he had been a music aficionado, he did not have any early plans to pursue a career in music. He cites the film
This is Spinal Tap as the primary source of inspiration for that decision.
Three years after graduation, Stephen moved to New York to treat audiences with his songs. And treat them he did. His fan base exploded as he successfully toured comedy clubs and college campuses. Adding to that popularity, in 2000, Stephen performed for a Comedy Central special as part of the series
Comedy Central Presents. It continued to be a good year, as he released his first full-length album,
A Little Bit Special.
Stephen's latest project has been starring as Robbie Hart in the Broadway musical
The Wedding Singer, a reincarnation of the film by the same name. His performance landed him a Tony nomination for Best Actor.
