Cree Summer is as interesting as her name. Born in 1969, she grew up in an entertainment-based family. She is the daughter of actor, vocalist and musician Don Francks, who is widely known for his role as Walter in USA Network’s “La Femme Nikita.” Summer also has one brother, Rainbow Francks, who is an actor too. Her first breakthrough role was on a well-known cartoon; she originated the voice of Penny in the ‘80s hit cartoon “Inspector Gadget.” Those who didn’t tune into the famous cartoon, probably caught Summer on TV in the 1980s. After a few years as a voice artist, Summer scored a part in the hit series “A Different World,” as Winifred “Freddie” Brooks. During filming, she entered a long-term relationship with co-star Kadeem Hardison, but it did not last. Not only is Summer a popular actress, but she’s also a talented voice artist who has made it big in the voice-over industry. From Penny in “Inspector Gadget” to Miranda in “As Told by Ginger” to Susie Carmichael on “Rugrats” to Elmyra on “Tiny Toon Adventures,” she is no stranger to the cartoon world.
