Efrem Zimbalist Jr. was born in New York City and is best known for his roles on 77 Sunset Strip and The F.B.I. After graduating from Yale University School of Drama in 1940, Efrem began his successful acting career as Jim Gavin in Concerning Miss Marlowe. From there, he starred in several television shows, had numerous guest star appearances, and also landed many leading roles in films and stage productions.

In addition to his acting career, Efrem is also a violinist and a composer and released an autobiography, My Dinner of Herbs, in 2003.

Efrem currently lives in Santa Barbara, California. His wife of over 40 years, Stephanie Spaulding, passed away on February 4, 2007 after a battle with lung cancer. Efrem is also a father of three, including daughter Stephanie Zimbalist, an actress, and grandfather of four.
