Stacey was trained for professional wrestling by her now ex-husband
Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler and she made her professional debut as an interviewer in 1996 in the USWA (United States Wrestling Association) based out of Memphis, Tennessee. She next became the valet for her then boyfriend
Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler whom she had first met at a local charity slow-pitch softball game in Memphis on 23 July 1989. She was working in a Doctor’s office at the time she met Jerry and some time after there meeting she then trained as a cosmetologist before opening her own hair salon called
"A Perfect Cut".
In 1998 they both moved on to the newly formed Power-Pro Wrestling organization originally named Memphis Power-Pro Wrestling also based out of Memphis.
While wrestling Power-Pro Wrestling Jerry won the MPPW Tag Team title belts in a handicap match against
Kid Wikkid and
Derrick King on 17 April 1999 in Memphis. Jerry would later give his 2nd belt and choose
‘Superstar’ Bill Dundee (William Crookshanks) as his tag team partner and they both would be accompanied to the ring by Stacey. On 2 October 1999
Glen Kulka and the
‘Irish Assassin’ Mic Tierney were awarded the titles in a phantom title change. Because Dundee had moved on, the organization decided the belts should change hands rather than Lawler choosing a new partner.
Glen Kulka was a former CFL Football player playing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders team. Stacey next was involved in an angle with wrestler
Shawn Stasiak (Shawn Stipich) where he began stalking her, even breaking into the couple's home on Christmas Day and attempting to kiss her just before Jerry returned home to physically remove him from their home.
She made her debut in the then known WWF (now known as the WWE) as
‘Miss Kitty’ on 23 August 1999 as the personal assistant to
Debra (Debra Gale Marshall) who was the manager for
Jeff Jarrett (Jeffrey Leonard Jarrett). On 17 October 1999 she decided to switch alliances and joined
Chyna (Joan ‘Joanie’ Marie Laurer). On 12 December 1999 Stacey in an upset victory became the WWF Women’s Champion at the annual
"Armageddon" pay-per view when she defeated the then champion
Ivory (Lisa Mary Moretti) in a
“Evening Gown Match” held in a pool of water. The match also included
Jacqueline (Jacqueline DeLois Moore) and
B. B. also known as
'Barbara Bush' (Cathy Dingman). After winning the title she stripped topless on her own initiative for the benefit of the crowd but she never realized that a frontal shot of her not a shot from the rear as she had been told would be shot was being broadcast live. She was quickly covered up by
Sgt. Slaughter (Robert Remus) who was working backstage and saw the incident on a monitor and rushed to her aide. Her accidental topless show that was seen globally on the syndicated pay-per view feed made her temporarily famous and the most downloaded scene on the Internet for weeks. The next night on
"Monday Night RAW", she declared that she was now going to be called
‘The Kat’ .
On 23 January 2000 she was one of the contestants in the
"Miss Rumble 2000" contest at the annual
“Royal Rumble” pay-per view which was won by
Mae Young. The following week on Raw she wrestled
Harvina a masked wrestler, in a
“Lumberjill Snowbunny Match”. After
Harvina beat Stacey she then revealed "herself" to really be a man, former professional wrestling manager
Harvey Wippleman (David Lauer). Most of the year of 2000 she had a huge running feud with beautiful, sexy, vivacious
Terri Runnels (Terri Ann Boatwright). At the annual
“Wrestlemania” pay-per view that was held in Anaheim, California on 2 April 2000 the 2 girls faced each other in a
“Catfight Match” with professional wrestler
Val Venus (Sean Morley) as the special guest referee. Terri won the match after
'The Fabulous Moolah' (Lillian Ellison) had pulled Stacey out of the ring and then threw Terri back in while Val was being distracted.
On
"Monday Night RAW" on 10 April Terri offered to
"bury the hatchet" so to speak and end their running feud by treating Carter to a day at a Beauty Salon but she drugged Stacey and proceeded to dye and shear her hair. From this point on Stacey would appear each week with a different color hairstyle. The
“Insurrextion” pay-per view held in London, England on 6 May saw the 2 girls in an
“Arm Wrestling Match” which Stacey won. Terri was so infuriated that she tore off Stacey’s top and for the 2nd time she was seen globally topless but this time it was in the script to do so. On
"Monday Night RAW" on 6 June,
Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler (representing Stacey) faced
‘The Shooter’ Dean Malenko (Dean Simon) (representing Terri) in a
“Over the Top, Loser loses their Top Match”. Jerry won the match but
Steven Richards (Michael Manna) who was now a member of the new group
“Right to Censor” came out and halted/censored Terri from having to remove her top. On 27 August at the annual
“Summer Slam” pay-per view the girls met again in a
“Thong Stinkface Match” which Stacey won.
Stacey next appeared on
“Sunday Night Heat” on 29 October accompanying
Eddie Guerrero (Eduardo Gory Guerrero Llanes) and she was dressed like a
Chyna lookalike. Eddie had set this whole charade up to make the real
Chyna who he had nicknamed
"Mamacita" jealous. The angle was dropped soon after when
Chyna requested that Carter not be included in the angle any longer. In 2001 Stacey began a new feud with
“Right to Censor” which included
Steven Richards, Ivory, Val Venus, Bull Buchanan (Barry Buchanan) and
‘The Godfather’ (Charles Wright) now calling himself
'The Good Father’. She insisted that she had the
"Right to Nudity" and enlisted the aid of
“The Acolytes” who would later rename to
“APA”.
“The Acolytes” consisted of
‘Faarooq’ (Ron Simmons) and
‘Bradshaw’ now better known as
'John Bradshaw Layfield' or
“JBL” (John Charles Layfield). During their feud Stacey kissed Richards hard and long on the lips and stripped
‘Ivory’ naked to the embarrassment of their group. One evening
“The Acolytes” were ambushed by
“RTC” in a nightclub, so Stacey recruited Lawler to help her out in her feud. Richards challenged Lawler to a match where, if Lawler won, Carter would be free to strip, but if Richards won, Carter would be forced to join
“RTC”.
Lawler was defeated by Richards when Carter accidentally hit Lawler with
Ivory's Women's Championship belt at the annual
“No Way Out” pay-per view on 25 February 2001. This caused the referee to disqualify Lawler and Carter was forced to join
"RTC" as a result, and accompanied the group dressed in sackcloth. Two days later she was released by the WWF, following complaints about her bad attitude backstage and concerns that if she became any more popular she would be impossible to control. This infuriated her then husband Lawler and he resigned from his announcing duties in disgust. Sometime after their divorce became final he returned to his duties as announcer/commentator for the WWF/WWE for
“Monday Night RAW”. On 10 March 2003 Stacey was awarded a very huge cash settlement and the ownership of Jerry’s Condo in Ft. Myers, Florida. She has settled down permanently in Florida where she has since become a Real Estate broker.
