In the year 1928 William West Anderson was born in Walla Walla, Washington. He grew up reading superhero comics. Later, he earned a degree in literature and psychology at Whitman College.

His acting career started when he joined the cast of Hawaiian children's programme 'The Kini-Popo Show.' His feature film debut came with 'The Young Philadelphia's.' It was at this movie that he used his newly adopted stage name 'Adam West' for the first time.

Adam continued starring in bit-part roles until he was cast in the lead role in ABC's cult TV show Batman (1966). The series lasted for three seasons and made Adam West well-known around the world. After Batman ended, West found it hard to land new roles since he was typecast as the Caped Crusader. In the 1970s and 1980s he starred in several forgettable films and made numerous guest stints in various TV shows.

Things started to look up in the 90s when he made memorable guest appearances in successful TV shows such as The Simpsons, The Critic, NewsRadio, Murphy Brown and The Wayans Bros.. His antics as Mayor Adam
