Regis Philbin is a renaissances man of the broadcast industry he has been a talk show host, game show host, singer and presenter at various events and series. He holds the Guinness Book of World Record for the most time spent in front of a television camera. He is known for his quick wit, distinctive New York Irish accent, and is often called "the hardest working man in show business". Regis was born Regis Francis Xavier Philbin, son of Frank and Florence Philbin. He was born in Manhattan and lived in the Bronx. He attended Our Lady of Solace grammar school in the Bronx. He went on to graduate from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx in 1949 before attending the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated in 1953 with a sociology degree. He briefly served in the US Navy and after that got his own talk show; "The Regis Philbin Show" on KGTV in San Diego, California. From 1967-1969 Regis finally gained national attention on the "The Joey Bishop Show" and then went on to bring "A.M. Los Angeles," a local morning talk show to number one in the ratings with his talented co-hosting job. Soon after, Regis started a show that would later become "Live with Regis and Kathie Lee" which is on the air today as "Live With Regis and Kelly". In 2001 he won an Emmy for "Outstanding TV Talk Show Host". While continuing to be a talk show host on "Live With Regis and Kathie Lee/Kelly" he briefly hosted two unsuccessful game shows "The Neighbors" and "Almost Anything Goes". Until he hosted "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" an incredibly successful game show from 1999-2002 which earned him another Emmy for "Outstanding Game Show Host". When the popularity began to decline, he left the game show and Meredith Vieira took it over. In 2004 he briefly returned to "Millionaire" to host a special "Who Wants to Be a Super Millionaire" version which was successful yet brief. Currently he hosts "America's Got Talent" a successful NBC show. Meanwhile during all of his regular host career he has made multiple TV appearances from hosting a Miss America Pageant to filling in for for Dick Clark for "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve," and being able to host a competing show on Fox the following year. Despite being "the hardest working man in show business" he has had time to marry and have four children. His wife, Joy, occasionally appears on "Live With Regis and Kelly".
