Born in Orchard Park, New York, Roy began his professional career not as an actor but as a physician, for which he is board certified in Radiation Oncology, a cancer subspecialty. His undergraduate work was done at the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Biological Basis of Behavior, with an emphasis on depression. Roy's medical degree was earned at University of Buffalo with residency at UCLA in Los Angeles.
His first acting training came at the Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Roy continued his training in Los Angeles where he has trained extensively with Playhouse product Joe Palese. Since switching over to acting, he has performed in seven plays as well as on tv: Windfall, The Shield, and as a recurring character on TLC's popular Untold Stories of the ER. Roy has also will be a lead character in the History Channel's upcoming Tibetan Book of the Dead as well as a recurring character on Soapnet's General Hospital Night Shift, as the character Dr. Boyd. Roy plays Doctor Yang in Warner Brother's upcoming feature, The Bucket List, starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. He currently resides in Santa Monica, California.
