Film and Television Actor Barney Phillips was the son of Henry Nathan & Leona Ofner. He graduated college in 1935 and tried his hand at acting. His career was slow moving so he decided to join the army. He served in the Army Signal Corps during World war II. His first movie role was in "Black Aces" in 1937. He went on to appear in over a dozen movies, many of them uncredited. He began his television career in the 1950's and in the following four decades made hundreds of television appearances. His first regular role on television was playing Sgt. Ed Jacobs on Dragnet. He was working in television right up until his death. He died of cancer in 1982.
