Giovanni Ribisi was born on December 17, 1974 in Los Angeles, California. His father, Albert Ribisi, is a musician, and his mother, Gay Landrum, is a talent agent. He has two sisters who are also actresses, one named Gina, and his twin sister, Marissa.

Ribisi has been working as an actor since he was just nine years old, in part because of his mother’s connections in Hollywood. When he was ten, he had his first television appearance Michael Landon’s show, Highway to Heaven. At age thirteen, he earned a role on the sitcom, My Two Dads. Other acting credits during his teenage years include parts and guest spots on The Wonder Years, Married with Children, Blossom, and Davis Rules. He later earned recognition by playing Phoebe’s brother Frank on the sitcom Friends. Lately he can also be seen guest-starring as one of Earl’s criminal friends on NBC's hit show, My Name is Earl.

Ribisi is also a noted film actor. He has been in The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, The Postman, The Mod Squad, and That Thing You Do!

Ribisi was married to actress Mariah O'Brien from 1997 to 2001, and together, they had one daughter, named Lucia Ribisi, born in 1997. Ribisi is a practicing Scientologist, as are several other members of his family.
