This mysterious Ishbalan is one of the greatest complexities in all of FullMetal Alchemist.

Having witnessed the brutal murder of his older brother by a State Alchemist, Scar was given the right arm of his older brother shortly before he died. Later, Scar learned what the arm was being used for---as a holding vessel for the main ingredient in the Philosopher's Stone.

Early in the series, Scar decides that his newfound knowledge of alchemy---a sin in the ways of his people---should be used to exact revenge on the members of the State Alchemists, who have "fallen from God's path."

He manages to murder dozens before turning his attentions to a new task: completing the Philosopher's Stone his brother has started.

Scar has red eyes and dark skin, a common trait among the race of Ishbalans. He also has a large X-shaped scar across his forehead and eyes, giving him the name that the military (and everyone else) uses when mentioning him throughout the series. His true name is never revealed.
