Lisa Marie Diane Kudrow was born July 30, 1963 in Encino, California. Her parents are Lee Kudrow and Nedra Stern. Lisa is of Jewish-American descent.

She attended Portola Middle School in Tarzana, California, then attended Vassar College and graduated with a degree in Biology.

Lisa's first major television role was as the daffy waitress Ursula Buffay, on the sitcom Mad About You. She was soon cast on Friends as Ursula's estranged twin sister, Phoebe Buffay. In 1998 she won an Emmy Award for Best Actress In A Comedy Series for the role.

She married Michel Stern and their one son, Julian Murray, was born on May 7, 1998.

Lisa has also starred in films, most notably in Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, Hanging Up, The Opposite of Sex, Analyze This and sequel Analyze That.

Lisa was co-creator, writer and executive producer of the HBO original series, The Comeback
She also starred as the main character, Valerie Cherish.
