Jilena Cori: Actor / Screenwriter
A former free-lance journalist turned professional actor, Jilena married her two passions into writing scripts. Her feature film Paper Moon Affair, for Fairchild Entertainment, was produced in 2004, ($ 3 million budget) was short listed for the Cannes film festival, premiered at the 2005 Montreal World Film Festival and was recognized at the 2005 Vancouver International Film Festival, Verona International Film Festival and Toronto’s Reel World. In 2006, it earned her a LEO nomination from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for “best screenplay for a feature length drama”. This is the first English language feature for the Hong Kong based company with television/radio stations throughout Canada; they have expressed interest in developing another feature based on a short film Jilena wrote. Paper Moon Affair is currently airing on MovieCentral, CBC, CityTV and can be found in Blockbuster Canada.
In August 2003, two of her short films were produced; one, Reggie’s on Top , was a winner in the 48hr Film Festival in Vancouver. The other, Pets’R’us, was nominated as “best short film” in the 2003 VFS Film Festival. It also opened the first International Short Film Festival in Vancouver in June 2004.
Jilena spent two years in Los Angeles, studying screenwriting and freelancing for Creative Screenwriting Magazine.
She is currently embarking on her producing and directing debut with a documentary feature: “I Do: Everyday”. In addition, “The Replacement: A Film Noir” won the 2007 Whistler Film Festival short film competition and 75K production budget from both Telefilm and the Olympic Arts Council for her first film as a writer/director.
