played Rear Admiral Albert "Al" Calavicci in Quantum Leap
Albert Calavicci was born on June 15, 1935 and when he was young his mother ran away. His father died when he was eleven years old. His sister, Trudy, went into a mental institution and when Al came to get her she had already died of pneumonia a year earlier, in 1953 at the age of sixteen. She suffered from Down's Syndrome. Al joined the Navy and was involved in the Vietnam War, where he was held prisoner by the Viet Cong for five years. His wife, Beth, had remarried by the time he got back to the USA and he went to get married another four times. It was in the 1990s that Al met Sam, and Sam managed to help Al recover from his drinking problem and, when in 1995 Sam "quantum leaped", Al became his observor to help Sam complete his missions to continue leaping, with each leap, possibly, bringing him closer to home. |
