James was born on Feb. 7th, 1960 in Boston Mass. to Todd and Jean Spader. He attended and subsequently dropped out of Phillips Academy in the 11th grade to pursue an acting career in New York. He married his wife, Victoria, in 1987 and had two children with her. James is most known for his roles in 'Pretty in Pink' and 'Less than Zero' in the mid 80's. From which he became part of group of successful young actors known as The Brat Pack.
