Fyvush was a veteran of the Yiddish theater for over fifty years by the time he started acting on American TV. Starting at age 9, he would be a regular in the theaters in New York's Lower East side for thirty-five years along with a stand-up comedy act in the Catskill's 'Borscht Belt'. When the venues died down in the 1960's, Fyvush moved on to a tour of "Fiddler On The Roof" for the next twelve years, eventually ending up on Broadway playing the lead role as 'Tyve'. His work in the NY Shakespeare Festival would earn him an OBIE Award. In the 1980's he would begin a string of minor roles in motion pictures. Picket Fences producer David E. Kelly would be the one who saw him in a movie as a shyster lawyer that would lead to his most notable role as Douglas Wambaugh on "Fences." After more than fifty years in performing, Fyvush finally would receive recognition for his work by winning an Emmy Award in 1994 for Picket Fences. He would re-team with Kelly in Boston Public but it would be short lived.
