Kim Thomson is partly Scottish and partly English, but grew up in the south of England. She trained for an acting career at the Central School of Speech and Drama, in London.

Kim has been a leading lady of stage, movie and television since the 1980s. She is well-known in the UK, as a star of shows like Virtual Murder, The Wanderer, McCready and Daughter, Loved by You, Brush Strokes, and 'orrible, and as a regular guest on drama series like Sherlock Holmes, Midsomer Murders and Rosemary and Thyme. She has also appeared in more than a dozen movies, and about half of her recent work has been in the US.
