Lalaine Vergara-Paras (born June 3, 1987 in Burbank, CA), is an actress/singer/dancer most widely known for her performance as Miranda Sánchez from the popular Disney series
Lizzie McGuire. She has contributed her voice to many Disney projects, and made several acting appearances.
Lalaine’s first real acting job was the role of Cosette in the Broadway production of
Les Miserables at the age of nine. She toured the United States with this production. Upon her return to California, she starred in a few commercials, and began to focus her career more on singing. An appearance in Tom Petty’s music video, “Walls,” led to her portraying the orphan Kate in the popular Disney movie version of the musical,
Annie.
Two years later, Lalaine got her big break, and was cast as Miranda Sánchez in the popular Disney series,
Lizzie McGuire. Disney would also later cast her alongside
AJ Trauth, in the Disney Channel Original Movie,
You Wish!
2003, along with the release of
You Wish!, marked the release of Lalaine’s independent album,
Lalaine: Inside Story. Six of the songs on that album were written by Lalaine herself. She has performed her songs all over southern California, worked with Radio Disney, and paid a visit to Hawaii with the Disney Imagineers. Lalaine traveled to the Phillipines in 2004, where she hosted her own travel show,
Flipside. Her single,
Haunted, also came out in 2004. 2005 saw yet another release from Lalaine, titled
I'm Not Your Girl.
Lalaine will star in the upcoming feature film,
Princess, slated to come out in 2007. She is also working on her new album.
