David Tennant, born David John McDonald, is a Scottish actor from Bathgate in West Lothian. He is perhaps most famous for the role of the Tenth Doctor in Doctor Who, which he played over the course of three series and various specials between 2005 and 2010. He has also had major roles in such shows as Casanova and Blackpool. He was educated at Ralston Primary and Paisley Grammar School, followed by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. His first major role was in the stage play The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, with Ashley Jensen. He is married to actress Georgia Moffett, and he drives a Skoda.
He picked his stage name of Tennant after seeing Pet Shop Boy Neil Tennant's name in a magazine. Peter Davison's Doctor was his favourite. Was a fan of Doctor Who before being cast as the 10th Doctor. After Sylvester McCoy, he is the second Scottish actor to play the Doctor in "Doctor Who".
