Bethany Joy Lenz was born on April 2, 1981 in Hollywood, Florida. Her first on-stage role came in 1988 during a stage production of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. See appeared in several other local stage productions before landing her first big-screen role in the 1996 film Thinner. Bethany landed her first television role in 1998 on the soap Guiding Light as Michelle Bauer Santos. From there, Bethany guest starred on several series, including Charmed and The Guardian. In 2003, she was cast as Haley James Scott on One Tree Hill, which is also her current role.
Aside from her acting career, Bethany has released two independent records Preincarnate (2002) and Come On Home (2005). Her music has been featured on One Tree Hill and in 2002 she toured with artists Tyler Hilton, The Wreckers, and Gavin DeGraw to promote One Tree Hill.
On December 31, 2005, Bethany married musician Michael Galeotti. The two currently reside in North Carolina where One Tree Hill is filmed.

Bethany: I don't party. I'm a total homebody. I like hanging out with my cat and I've actually been known to stay home and knit.
| Bethany: (about filming One Tree Hill) Like summer camp, only it's really cold in Wilmington, North Carolina. I've never lived in a small town, but I always pictured myself in a small house, drinking lemonade on my porch swing. Now I have the porch.

| Bethany: Music is something that is in you. You can touch people with your music even if you're working a job at starbucks or working a desk job.
| Bethany: I wrote my first song when I was maybe like four years old. I was always wandering around the house making things up. Back then, I learned a lot about singing from listening to Mariah Carey. I would sing to her [albums] and try and get all her riffs and stuff. I would be in my room for hours until I could get it right, it helps being an only child because I didn't have anything else to do.
