Aeryn is a very serious person that didn't care about anyone. She is forced into living on Moya because she is "compromised" by John. She has no choice as she can't go back to her normal life because she will be killed if she does. This character evolves during the show becoming as she allows herself to have emotions.

Vala Mal Doran, a former thief who was once host to a Goa'uld.

Now, she is an integral part of SG-1, with unique knowledge and invaluable "street" smarts of the galaxy that prove useful as she tries to earn respect, and prove she has changed, to SG-1 and Stargate Command. This has been made all that more difficult due to her first encounter with SG-1 being the single-handed hijacking of the Prometheus, subsequently foiled by Daniel Jackson.

Despite this bad first encounter with Daniel Jackson, there has always been a subtle, mutual connection between them, which has led Daniel to defend her to the rest of the SG-1 team and to General Landry.

Despite her troubled past, she has stuck with her transformation from con artist to a well loved member of the SG-1 team.
