Albert Arkwright is the owner of the local grocery store which the series was centered around. He had the ability to sell goods to his unsuspecting customers (even if they did'nt want them). His errand boy and general dogsbody was his nephew Granville (played by David Jason).

Arkwright was known for his persistant stutter and the fact he had a long standing relationship with Nurse Gladys Emmanuel (Played by Lynda Baron). She was in fact his fiancée but try as he might the relationship did not seem to progress any further than him trying to sneak the odd kiss.
