Christa Miller was born on May 28, 1964 in Manhattan, New York. She is the daughter of Chuck Miller and former model Bonnie Trompeter. Her aunt and uncle are Susan Saint James and Dick Ebersol.
Miller was a child model, appearing in an ad for Wonder Bread at the age of six months, and at age three for an Ivory soap and a cover of Redbook magazine, alongside her mother and her brother. Her modeling career was put on hold briefly when she was ten while she was treated for a benign bone tumor, but after she was pronounced healthy, it wasn’t long before she went back to modeling. She worked in Europe and Japan, and finally gave acting a try.
Her first television appearance, at age sixteen, was a commercial for Polaroid. Looking for acting work, she moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1990. She abandoned modeling completely and was soon given a role on the sitcom, Kate & Allie. She also did a few episodes of Seinfeld, Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Party of Five. She was cast as the role of Mary Katherine (Kate) O'Brien, Drew’s friend and sometimes love interest, on The Drew Carey Show. More recently, she appears on the medical sitcom Scrubs in a recurring guest role as Jordan Sullivan, and has done voice work on the show, Clone High, USA.
Miller is married to writer/producer Bill Lawrence, and the couple has three children: Charlotte Sarah, William Stoddard, and Henry Vanduzer.

Christa Miller Lawrence Quotes |

Christa: (On what sticks in her mind about the first season of Scrubs) That my hair - it looks way too dark - and it looks much better blonde. So that would be my main thing. | Christa Miller: (On Scrubs' nomination for an Emmy in 2006) If we don't win, we're going to be bitter and angry and walk out in a big huff. | Christa: (On Charlotte and William being for the third child) They're kind of ready. They think it'll be fun. But I think once it comes home it won't be as fun as they thought. | Christa: (On being pregnant while filming Scrubs) They wrote it into the show because you can't hide it. Then you just look like moon-face weirdo on the show. So they wrote it in so I'm comfortable. But still, at some point you're too fat to be on TV. | Christa: (On her network test for ABC) I'd just done and episode of Seinfeld and when I went to do the network test at ABC, I think they were nervous that I was a little too green. So I thought, "Let me see if I can get this Seinfeld tape. | Christa: (On her getting the role of Kate O'Brien) I went from the first audition to three more rehersals to the network test in the same outfit, which was brown boots, brown corderoys and a pink t-shirt. Actors get superstitious about, um, you go in for a meeting and if they call you back, you feel like part of it's the outfit. The prodcers must've been really tired of seeing that outfit. I just found that outfit and stuck with it. | Christa: When you're doing a pilot it's very nerve-wracking and everyone is trying to, you know, they want it to be picked up. | Christa: (On the first season of The Drew Carey Show) It was fun doing that show and the first year was exciting and new. | Christa Miller-Lawrence: Keep in mind that my husband writes Jordan’s lines. Every time I say something stupid, he puts it in the script. | Christa: We had a big fight over the episode where my character comes back pregnant and tries to seduce her ex-husband, Dr. Cox [John C. McGinley]. Bill had written one scene where the camera would shoot my butt. I called him and said, 'You are not shooting my pregnant butt on television.' He said, 'Oh, yes, I am.' He told me that any actress would do that scene, so Heather Locklear, who was guest-starring in the episode, got on the phone and said, 'I wouldn’t do it. You wouldn’t shoot my pregnant butt.' |
