Marg's full name is Mary Marg Helgenberger. She was born on November 16, 1958 in Fremont Nebraska. Her father's name is Hugh and her mother's name is Kay. She has one sister, Ann, and one brother, Curt.
Marg went to Kearney State College, then transferred to Northwestern Alumnus School of Speech in Evanston, IL, majoring in drama and speech. Her first major acting role in college was as Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire.
In 1981 while performing in a Shakespeare play, she was discovered by a talent scout for the daytime drama, Ryan's Hope. She was offered a role on the show, but she wasn't finished with college so she turned it down. The scout didn't forget her though, and followed up with Marg once she was out of school. She got a part as Siobhan Ryan on the show - her first job as a professional actress.
Marg married Alan Rosenberg in 1989. They have a son together named "Hugie".
Marg's recieved the Q Award for Best Supporting Actress in a drama for her role on China Beach in 1989, 1990 and 1991. In 1990 she also won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, China Beach. She was later nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Catherine Willows on CSI in 2002.
