Born as Holly Rachel Vukadinović to a Russian father (composer Rajko Vukadinović) and an English mother (Rachel Stevens from Southampton), Holly Valance started off as modelling for catwalk shows, commercials, editorial and catalogues for three years. In 1999, after leaving school, she signed a three year contract to appear in Australian soap opera
Neighbours as Felicity “Flick” Scully.
In May 2002, Holly did a
Kylie and exploded onto the music scene with her first single
Kiss Kiss (reaching #1 in both the UK and Australia). She shocked friends and relatives by the impression that she was dancing naked, with her nudity only concealed by strategically placed lighting. (In fact she was dancing wearing flesh-coloured underwear, and the footage of her dancing was then digitally retouched to create the illusion.) Quitting the Australian soap to concentrate on a music career, Valance released two more singles from her debut album
Footprints:
Down Boy (reaching #2 in the UK and #4 in Australia) and
Naughty Girl (reaching #17 in the UK and #3 in Australia).
In 2003, Holly released her next single
State of Mind (peaked at #8 in the UK and #14 in Australia) taken from her second album of the same name. However, the album did not make the top 50 in either the UK or Australia and in May 2004, the singer was dropped from her record company London Records (who also fronted
Dannii Minogue and
Shaznay Lewis). 2003 also saw the singer/actress appear in a series of commercials for 0800 Reverse about making reverse call charges.
After spending some time in London, England, Valance moved to Los Angeles in March 2004 to pursue a possible film career. She has recently guest starred in episodes of
CSI: Miami,
CSI: NY and five episodes of
Prison Break. She made her film debut as Christie Allen in "Dead or Alive" (based on the video game series) which was released on 25 August 2006. This was followed by playing Jessica in the National Lampoon film "Pledge This" and Diva in the 2008 Luc Besson feature
Taken starring
Liam Neeson.
