Born on March 19, 1928 in Astoria, Queens, New York, acclaimed Irish actor Patrick McGoohan was the only child of Thomas and Rose Fitzpatrick McGoohan. His parents were Irish immigrants who had arrived in the USA mere months before. However, McGoohan claims his father "couldn't take to the pace of New York" and he, his wife and their infant son soon relocated to Ireland. McGoohan spent the first seven years of his life on his parents' farm in Leitrim, which was and to a large extent still is the poorest county in Ireland.
